Project Description

The Franklin Institute of Wellness offers three academic programs in aromatherapy: The 330 contact hour Certificate in Aromatherapy, the 550 contact hour advanced Diploma in Aromatherapy, and the 130 contact hour advanced Certificate in Essential Oil Ingestion.

Authorization & Accreditation

The Franklin Institute of Wellness is proud to be fully authorized to grant college certificates and degrees by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. This commission oversees college education and ensures that diplomas and certificates issued by the FIW are recognized as legitimate college credentials nationwide.

This authorization is renewed annually and is based on standards concerning the quality of higher education offered by FIW, ethical business practices, student success rates, instructor qualifications, and fiscal responsibility. Franklin Institute of Wellness has been approved as a higher education institution since its foundation in 2013 and annual reviews have found that the school continues to meet those high standards each year.

The Franklin Institute of Wellness is also an approved school by the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy and is the only NAHA approved school with a PhD researcher directing the program. Our Director, Dr. Jessie Hawkins, is also the Tennessee Regional Director for NAHA and a frequent speaker at NAHA events.

Research

At the Franklin Institute of Wellness, scientific research is not an added touch; it is the core of the curriculum and entire academic environment. When you become a student at FIW, you will learn the language of clinical research through multiple unique opportunities. In addition to receiving a fully evidence based education, you will enjoy monthly “Research Insider” webinars with Dr. Jessie Hawkins, the Research Director. In these interactive, live streamed webinars, you will get the latest insights on emerging scientific research.

If you enroll in the Diploma of Aromatherapy Science or the Certificate of Essential Oil Ingestion program, you will also have the exclusive opportunity to join a research cohort and help conduct scientific research on essential oils. This unique academic experience allows you the potential for graduating from the program with published scientific research in the field. As the only integrative health college in the country with a clinical research team studying the effects of aromatherapy, your education at the Franklin Institute of Wellness ensures that you enter the field as a leading aromatherapy professional.

Clinical Skills

Every single aromatherapy program offered by the Franklin Institute of Wellness has an emphasis on clinical skills. Whether your goal is to formulate skincare products, to integrate essential oils to an existing medical practice, or to become a professional aromatherapist, you will master the art of the practice of aromatherapy.

Clinical skills at FIW are taught using the 5 Pillar Method, an evidence based model of practice which was developed by our Director and Aromatherapy Department Chair. The 5 Pillar Method utilizes existing scientific research and theories of practice to improve upon the practice of aromatherapy. By graduation, all of our aromatherapy students are experts at implementing this method into an aromatherapy practice and have skills and experience beyond entry-level.

Study Abroad

The Franklin Institute of Wellness offers opportunities to study aromatherapy and essential oil research in depth in England every other year through the week long study abroad trip. These trips are small, intimate opportunities to take your aromatherapy education to the next level with one-on-one study time with FIW faculty and director, Dr. Jessie Hawkins. Carve Your Niche in this Blossoming Field

As essential oils become more and more commonplace, the need for qualified and experienced professionals is rapidly growing. This booming industry requires essential oil experts who are capable of educating and empowering clients on the safe and effective applications of essential oils and experts who can formulate essential oil based products for a growing market.

Whether your goals are to integrate aromatherapy into your existing practice, to formulate organic household or body care products, or to consult with individuals about the safe and effective uses of essential oils, a recognized aromatherapy certification from a legitimate research-focused college is the first step.

An aromatherapy education is also valuable for professionals in related fields ranging from massage therapy to the practice of medicine. Approximately 28% of the FIW student body is made up of licensed medical professionals who are preparing to integrate herbalism or aromatherapy into their practices. According to Careers in Focus, an aromatherapy education enables professionals to increase earning potential by an additional $5,000 – $10,000 each year.

Careers in Aromatherapy

FIW-trained professional aromatherapists operate practices around the world, offering personal consultations for clients. A private consulting practice enables you to work directly with clients to provide them the education and empowerment they need to make safe and healthy decisions for their families with the help of essential oils and essential oil-based products.

Graduates with an aromatherapy certification also work for the essential oil industry as a product consultant, providing valuable expertise in product safety and efficacy. Or you can go on to develop and market your own line of aromatherapy products or supplements. Some FIW graduates have even opened their own line of essential oils, providing high quality oils and effective blends.

If you already hold a license in a medical field, you can increase earning potential by adding an aromatherapy certification to your existing credentials, empowering your patients to use their favorite essential oil products more effectively and safely. As the essential oil industry continues to explode, this expertise sets you apart from others in the field.

If you already hold a license in a medical field, you can increase earning potential by adding an aromatherapy certification to your existing credentials and turn your practice into an integrative profession. With over half of Americans currently using natural products, your patients will appreciate your mastery of additional expertise in this field.
