Lead Research Team
Dr. Jessie Hawkins: Dr. Hawkins is the Academic Director and Research Director at the Franklin Institute of Wellness. She holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Health, a Master’s in Health Education & Promotion, and a PhD in Health Research, in addition to postgraduate education in epidemiology and a collection of certifications in the fields of childbirth, herbalism, and aromatherapy.
Dr. Laura Debiasi: Dr. Debiasi is a professor at both the Franklin Institute of Wellness and the University of Alabama-Birmingham graduate school. She holds a Bachelor’s in Nursing and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. Her research expertise includes botanical and dietary supplements as well as global health.
Christy Hires: Christy is an instructor at the Franklin Institute of Wellness and a research assistant. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree and is completing a Master’s Degree in Health Education & Promotion, in addition to being a clinical aromatherapist. Her areas of research include aromatherapy and health behavior theory.
Elizabeth Dunne, RD: Elizabeth is a research assistant and a nutrition and metabolism content expert. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and a Master’s Degree in Nutrition. Her areas of research include dietary supplements, herbal medicine, and aromatherapy.
Lindsey Cherry: Lindsey is a current nutrition and dietetics student at Middle Tennessee State University and is currently certified in ethical research with human participants. She offers support to study participants and maintains files for participants.
Volunteers & Interns
Joan Clifft: Joan is a volunteer who supports the FIW Research Team by communicating with our project collaborators for scheduling and by preparing participant packets for participants in our research studies.
Carson Royster: Carson is a current student at the Franklin Institute of Wellness and a research intern who assists with the preparation of essential oil and herbal interventions for study participants.
Franklin Institute of Wellness Student Body: Students of the Franklin Institute of Wellness are valuable members of the FIW Research Team and are eligible to participate in the projects conducted at the school by volunteering to assist with preparation of patient kits and learning more about the research process.
*To protect the privacy of participant volunteers, research team Volunteers and Interns do not have access to patient/participant data and do not work directly with study participants.
