You’re ready to take the first steps towards your new career in aromatherapy or herbalism. Now what?
Our admissions process is straight-forward but it is important to ensure that you don’t skip any steps. If you have any questions at any time during the application or admissions process, don’t hesitate to reach out directly to our admissions advisors who are eager to help you along this journey.
Step One: Preparation
The best first step is to begin preparing your documentation. A complete application includes several parts: the application itself, a $45 nonrefundable application fee, an admissions essay, two letters of recommendation, high school transcripts (these must) be sent to us directly from your secondary school, and college transcripts if you are applying for transfer credit.
Have you ever attended college before? If not, you will only need to look up the transcript options for your high school. If so, review your transcripts to see if you want to submit any coursework for credit at FIW. Once you have a good idea of the process, you’re ready to apply!
Keep a couple of things in mind: We accept transfer credit from some personal enrichment programs. If you have attended aromatherapy or herbal classes elsewhere and would like us to evaluate your transcripts for possible credit, those will need to be sent as well. Additionally, as we are a postsecondary institution, all applicants must be 18 on or before the first session begins and must hold a high school diploma or the equivalent. We are unable to accept students into the program who have not completed high school.
Step Two: Apply
You can complete the online application here. The non-refundable $45 application fee must be received with your application submission or it will not be processed. If you have already written your admissions essay (see requirements for the essay here), you can submit it with your application. If not, it can be sent later via email or physical mail.
Step Three: Transcripts
We must have full transcripts sent to us directly from your high school or equivalency program and any transcripts you are submitting for transfer credit must be sent directly from the college or university itself. We are unable to accept transcripts you send us directly or copies of transcripts you may have. This is the longest part of the admissions process, so request those early!
Reminder: Transcripts can be sent by physical mail to: Franklin Institute of Wellness Attn: Admissions / 504 Autumn Springs Ct ste 6 / Franklin TN, 37067. They can also be sent digitally to info(at)franklininstituteofwellness(dot)com.
Step Four: Admissions Essay
If you submitted your admissions essay early, good for you! You can skip to the next step. Otherwise, it’s time to begin working on that. Remember that it may take a few revisions to get it the way you want it. This essay introduces you to the admissions department so take advantage of the space to really sell yourself as a student.
Step Five: Recommendations
Your two letters of recommendation must also be sent directly to us. These can come from anyone who can vouch for your academic ability, your potential as a future aromatherapist or herbalist, or for your drive and ambition. They do not have to be bosses or mentors, but cannot be family members. The purpose of these letters is to let the admissions committee know that you are prepared to succeed at the course requirements and as a future professional.
Step Six: Application Processing
Once you have completed all of the steps above, we will get right to work reviewing and processing your application. Program acceptance is at the discretion of the school so this process may take up to 1-2 weeks. If there are any additional documentation items needed, you will be notified right away. If all is well with your application, you will proceed to the next step: Application Interview.
Step Seven: Application Interview & Academic Planning
Within 7-14 days of receiving the final piece of your application, you will be scheduled for an admissions interview with our director, Jessie Hawkins. If you are taking the hybrid course option or are local to the school, this will take place in-person. Otherwise, this will be scheduled via Skype. During this 60 minute interview, Jessie will discuss your career options with you, go over the school catalog and procedures, and work with you to develop a strategy for diploma completion that meets your unique budget and schedule. You will leave this meeting with a complete plan for the scheduling of your classes and a projected graduation date. Within 7 days of this meeting, you will receive a formal response from our admissions committee and if you are accepted, after a small celebration and some congratulations, you will receive a full program agreement and all of the registration information you need to work through the next steps on your journey.
Questions? If you have any questions about the application process, you can reach an advisor at 615-261-3116.
